Wayland will face Medway on Tuesday night at 5:00pm in Westwood. The Warriors earned a trip to Westwood with a win over Marblehead yesterday in the Division 3 North Championship at Manning Field. Charlie Halliwell scored the game winner early in the first half. Goals were also scored by Michael Jones and Marco Melero. Keeper Curran Murphy had his second shutout in as many games.
Wayland travels to Manning Field, the site of last year’s devastating loss to Swampscott in the D3 North Semi Finals, today to face the Big Blue at 5:15pm. Swampscott dealt DCL foe Bedford a 1-0 loss on Tuesday to advance to tonight’s game. As the higher seed, Swampscott will be the home team.
The Warriors will have to contend with Swampscott’s three central midfielders who control the game for the Big Blue. #9 Jack Herlihy, #4 Mike Coffey, and #10 Jack Dennehy are the big guns for Swampscott. Coffey netted the winner against Bedford. Together, these players allow Swampscott to play an up tempo game. Wayland will have to limit Swampscott’s ability to use these players to control the flow of play.
With a strong showing on Friday, the Warriors clinched a spot in the 2016 MIAA Division 3 Soccer Tournament. Wayland beat Lincoln-Sudbury 3-1 at home. Goal scorers for the Warriors were Cam Gordon, Kobe Balson, and Gage Fuller. Balson’s goal was the his first career varsity goal. It ended up being the game winner for the Warriors.
Wayland’s victory came against the #3 ranked team in the latest Boston Globe high school boys’ soccer rankings. The Warriors are not ranked.

This Saturday night at Concord-Carlisle High School, Wayland faces AB in the tenth annual Kicks for Cancer game. Kick off is at 7:00PM.

Junior Michael Jones was named the MaxPreps/NSCAA High School State Players of the Week for September 6-11, 2016
Jones currently leads the DCL in scoring with 6 goals and 1 assist in 4 games. The Warriors next face Weston on Tuesday at 3:30 in Weston.
NSCAA/MaxPreps High School Players of the Week Announced
Jones has been named the NSCAA/MaxPreps High School State Players of the Week for his on-field efforts October 24 – October 30.
This is his second nomination this season. Jones finished the regular season second in overall scoring to Concord-Carlisle’s All-New England player, Junior Spencer Royal.
