Nico Pascual-Leone has been named to the 2011 NSCAA High School Scholar All-America team. He is one of ten forwards in the United States to earn this distinction. He will be formally recognized in Kansas on Saturday, January 14th, 2012 at the NSCAA National Convention.

Coaches Gavron and Goodhue to Coach All-Star Game

Joining Senior Nico Pascual-Leone, Coaches David Gavron and Charles Goodhue will be on the sidelines to coach the Division II North All-stars against the South. You can catch the action at the EMSCA All-star Game on Friday, November 25, 2011, at Quincy Veterans Memorial Stadium. Kick off is scheduled for 9:00am.

Coaching Staff Complete – Schaye On Board

Former Lexington High and Lake Forest College soccer player, David Schaye, has joined the Warrior staff as the new Junior Varsity coach. Schaye will be working at Wayland Middle School this upcoming school year. The Warrior staff is excited to welcome Coach Schaye.

Tyngsborough Defeats Warriors

The Warriors fell yesterday to a gritty Tigers team in Tyngsborough. The final score of 1-0 left Wayland questioning what happened. Before the game the Warriors were virtually tied with Weston for First Place in the DCL Small Division. After the game, the Warriors are on the outside looking in. Wayland plays Arlington Friday at Arlington. With a record of 5-4-4 (2-1-3 DCL Small), Wayland will look to re-focus and battle for a piece of the DCL crown!

Varsity Parents to Attend Practice

On Labor Day, WHS Varsity Soccer Parents are requested to attend practice at the high school. Practice will run from 4:00 – 6:00. Parents should plan on arriving at 5:30pm to watch the last half hour. Following the practice Coach Gavron will speak to both parents and athletes about expectations for the upcoming season.

Kicks for Cancer on Friday, October 24th

CC Boys Soccer is sponsoring the second annual “Kicks for Cancer” game in memory of Lois Wells. Admission will be charged for BOTH JV and Varsity matches with proceeds going to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.

Optimism Shed by Parent

We can’t win every game. Today was a tough loss at Bedford, 1-0. The boys are playing well, but that does not always result in goals or wins. After the game, Wayland soccer parents have often provided snacks for the players. To the parents these are “snacks,” but to me they are often full course meals! Through many a stuffed mouth I have mumbled a hardy thanks!

Today we had the “snacks.” This time after the game often lends itself for conversations to occur with parents. One parent came up to me, smiling. In fact, win or lose, I have never noticed this parent to not smile. This parent lives and breathes optimism. And I thank the parent for this!

The wins and loses will really take care of themselves. Yet, if I continue to look at reasons to be optimistic with the team and the boys, we can really grow. We are a young team with relative inexperience throughout the field. But that will change as we work more together.

Yes, we lost to Bedford…but I continue to win because I learn from my players, fellow coaches, and … gasp, even parents.
