First Scrimmage Shows Need for Much Work

The Warriors battled Pentucket Regional High School on Saturday at Wayland. The JV candidates defeated Pentucket 2-0. The Varsity candidates did not fair as well, falling 3-1 to the Sachems. The Varsity team has been named for 2010 and will begin training as a team on Monday, August 30th.

Coaching Staff Complete – Schaye On Board

Former Lexington High and Lake Forest College soccer player, David Schaye, has joined the Warrior staff as the new Junior Varsity coach. Schaye will be working at Wayland Middle School this upcoming school year. The Warrior staff is excited to welcome Coach Schaye.

Nowak Joins Warriors Staff

WHS Spanish teacher Lisa Nowak has been named the Freshmen Boys Soccer Coach for the 2010 season. Nowak is in her second stint of teaching at WHS. Last year she taught and coached soccer in Rome. The Warrior coaching staff is excited to welcome Coach Nowak to the program.

The Warriors open the 2010 season hosting Newton South. Some key match ups include traveling to Topsfield to face Division I power Mascononmet. Please go to Calendar and jump ahead to August and September to check out more details. Wayland is looking to add one more non-conference game to the 2010 campaign.

Trueblood Named to Eastern Mass All-Star Team

Michael Trueblood, senior captain of Wayland High School Boys soccer, was named to the Eastern Mass All Star team after being chosen as one of the top seven players in the Dual County League. Trueblood, a three year varsity letter earner, lead his team in goals his junior year with four goals despite missing a portion of the season due to injury. Despite receiving a lot of attention from opposing teams’ defenses, Trueblood was able to register eight goals in his Senior year campaign. Some highlights of his season include scoring the game winning goal against a then undefeated Concord-Carlisle team inside the final three minutes, scoring a game tying goal against a top-20 ranked Hopkinton team on a 13 game unbeaten streak to ignite a 3-1 comeback win for Wayland, and scoring two goals, including the game winning goal against Waltham on two rocketed volleys into the left side netting within a five minute span.

Trueblood will compete in an all-star game on November 27th.

Banquet Monday 11/16

The Soccer Banquet will be this coming Monday, 11/16. The night will kick off at 6:30PM in the Field House. Following the awards from our AD and the Boosters, the Boys’ Soccer Program will move to the Commons for our portion of the evening. This will include brief comments from Coach Porrell, Coach Kissack, Coach Goodhue and Coach Gavron. The night will conclude with a slide show and video presentation.

Soccer Players are required to wear shirts and ties. No hats please.

Time + Location for Tourney Game Set

Wayland will travel to Lawrence and face 15th seed Central Catholic on Saturday in the Preliminary Round to the state tournament.

Kick Off is at 4:30 at Lawrence Stadium.

Lawrence Veterans’ Memorial Stadium -
Route 495 to Exit 42 – Route 114 towards South Lawrence. Follow ramp and continue on 114 past Showcase Cinemas and up hill. Just after Texaco Station, take 2nd right. This will bring you along the back of the home side grandstand. Park along roadways.
